New Venture-Cup Cake Ice Cream Cones

A few months ago it was my colleagues birthday at work, so I decided I would attempt to make something I have never done so before. Instead of making simple cup cakes, I decided that it would be fun to make Cup Cake Ice Cream Cones.

I filled the base of the cones with a variety of candy. Gummy Bears, Skittles, M&M's and Jelly Beans.

I then made two different size cupcakes. The larger size chocolate. The smaller mini ones white cake swirl.

I used food dye to create different colors for the frosting to create the effect of different flavor ice cream.

Using the frosting as "cement," I flipped the larger cupcake upside down in the cone. I then used more frosting to "cement" the smaller cupcake on top of the larger one. Using a cake frosting knife, I swirled some more of the frosting around and around the two cupcakes until it looked like a mound of ice cream yogurt in a cone. I topped each one off with some sprinkles.

Considering they kept bumping against each other on the ride into work, I don't think they turned out too bad!

To try to keep that from happening though, I took a crate and fitted it with a 24-pack soda cardboard tray. Using the pre-impressed circles from the cans, I cut out circles for the cones to sit into. Since this soda tray fit in the tray it was secure and the bottoms of the cones had enough room not to touch the bottom of the crate. They did "tip" a little but then again-I didn't really have time to plan out travel arrangement for these! ha!
